Windermere on the Lake is a pinnacle of land use planning and design; a hallmark example of how land development can be sensitively approached; and a testament to the notion that there is a viable option to the all too common sprawling subdivisions that have fragmented our natural landscape.

To preserve this natural legacy, Windermere will donate 25 acres of the property to the Stamford Land Conservation Trust, the largest gift in the Trust's history, with an additional 25 acres retained as open space. Unlike typical subdivisions that fragment the landscape, Windermere represents an ecological approach to development. Our Habitat Management Plan includes wetland restoration and preservation features that naturally improve water quality and prevent erosion. Buffer zones of enriched topsoil, ferns, and other plantings protect specific habitats. Where necessary, invasive plants are removed and replaced with native species that promote the long-term health of the environment.

Windermere is also encouraging native wildlife to thrive, with wildflower and butterfly plantings, bluebird nesting boxes, and a log-crib habitat structure for fish in one of our picturesque ponds.

Whether hiking along the trail in the Trust's nature preserve or canoeing in Lake Windermere, you will enjoy this naturally diverse environment just beyond your front door. Each of Windermere's homes has been sensitively sited to provide sweeping lake, woodland, or meadow views.

Every home at Windermere is certified through the Environmental Protection Agency's EnergyStar program. The Model Home at Windermere has been certified under the United States Green Builders Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environment (LEED®) program and every home is built to specifications that meet the LEED® standards for Certification.
